Released earlier this week, Super Smash Brothers Brawl lived up to all of its high expectations. Released just for the Nintendo Wii, I was very happy my sister had received one for Christmas. I am not a big video game fan, but growing up Super Smash Brothers, along with the ever popular Sonic the Hedgehog, were my favorite games and basically the only games I played. Super Smash Brothers served as a staple to any party growing up. You could have up to four people playing at a time and the matches are really quick so that everyone has a chance to play. Also the controls for the game were very simple so even if you do not know how to play you can always join in and learn really quick. It was also a very versatile game with many different ways to play and many characters to chose from making each round unique.
This is what I was expecting from the Brawl. I had only found out that it was coming out a week before its release date and at the same time i had found out that Sonic would be a playable character in it. Even before the times of Super Smash Brothers and Nintendo 64, there was Sega Genesis. This was the system I had growing up and it included great titles such as Aladdin, Altered Beast, Contra, and of course Sonic. This is where he made his debut in the gaming world and ever since he has been a legend. This was my favorite game to play growing up and I played it nonstop. So in finding out that this beloved childhood character would be starring in the new game I was very excited.
The Brawl roster includes 35 players when they are all unlocked. The game starts you off with about 20 of these players and you have to unlock the rest through the new adventure game, The Subspace Emissary. This adventure game alone is worth the $50 for the game and it is not even the best part. The versus mode is the real selling ticket for this game. This versus mode is very thorough and completely move sets for each player, there are a lot of new things to be explored in the game.
This game in the end is well worth any money needed to purchase it. It is a very well put together game with a lot of new features and one player sections to work on. Filled with things to unlock, this game will keep you busy forever without ever exploring the versus mode. Great game and a must have for all.
